My essay, “The Letter H and a List – How I Connected the Stories in My Memoir,” is featured today on The Brevity Blog. My memoir started out as a collection of unrelated essays, loosely tied together by place and memories. When it became apparent that, surprisingly, I was actually writing a book, I was faced with how to string together all of these ideas and essays into chapters that would flow together. In my Brevity Blog piece, I explain how a conversation with my daughter led me to use a list of notes as a chapter, ultimately providing the framework for the entire book.
